Think your hard disk has bad sectors? With the free application Macrorit Disk Scanner you can quickly find out for sure. This application will scan your disk, uncover bad sectors if there are any, and mark the location of the bad sectors.

Little time and effort will go into installing Macrorit Disk Scanner on a Windows-powered machine (just about any 32 or 64-bit edition you can think of). You will have to go through a standard setup procedure: download a small installer (2.3Mb in size), run it, go through the steps presented by a setup wizard.

The dropdown in the upper left hand side of the application’s interface allows you to choose the storage that will be scanned. Macrorit Disk Scanner can scan a variety of devices: IDE HDD, SATA HDD, SCSI HDD, FireWire HDD, SSD, USB HDD, external HDD, USB flash drives, SD cards, USB sticks, and more.
The Scan Area button allows you to choose if you want to scan the entire device or just a certain area.
And the More button allows you to specify if you want to shut down your machine once the scan completes.

Using Macrorit Disk Scanner is a very simple 3-step process.
Step 1 – choose the storage device you want to be scanned.
Step 2 – choose the area you want to be scanned, pick if you want your computer to be automatically shut down once the scan completes.
Step 3 – launch the scan.

Macrorit Disk Scanner is a free application.

Scan your storage devices and find out if they have bad sectors with the free, user friendly application Macrorit Disk Scanner.

Pros

Macrorit Disk Scanner provides support for lots of Windows editions; installing it is a simple matter. You will very quickly get accustomed to the interface. Macrorit Disk Scanner can scan a variety of storage devices. The computer can be shut down automatically once the scan completes. This is a free application.

Cons

None that I could think of.
